Kristen Bonilla, APR, is a marketing manager at Hawai‘i Pacific Health, the state's largest health care system. In this position, she is responsible for content marketing, media relations and social media strategy and implementation. She also oversees marketing and communications for Hawai‘i Health Partners, an accountable care organization of independent physicians, employed Hawai‘i Pacific Health physicians, and Hawai‘i Pacific Health hospitals and clinics.
Prior to joining Hawai‘i Pacific Health, Kristen served 12 years as public information officer for the University of Hawai‘i System. Here she managed and coordinated strategic communications, media relations, crisis communication, issues management, creative writing, social media and event planning for the 10-campus university system. Kristen also served as public relations coordinator for St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii where she was responsible for system employee communications and public relations activities for the Cancer Center, Heart Center and the Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
An active member of PRSA Hawaii since 2001, Kristen served as President in 2009 and currently serves as the chapter's Assembly Delegate and Accreditation Chair. She is also active at the District and National levels, serving as the PRSA Western District Chair in 2012 and as a member of the PRSA National Nominating Committee and PRSA National Accreditation Marketing Committee in 2014.
Kristen was recognized by PRSA Hawaii in 2003 with the Hokupaa Award for the Young PR Professional of the Year, and has earned numerous other awards for her work from both PRSA Hawaii and IABC Hawaii. In 2008, she earned the APR credential designating her as an accredited member of the chapter.
Born and raised on Kaua‘i, Kristen graduated cum laude from Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations with an emphasis in Business/Marketing, She resides in Honolulu with her husband, Daniel, and son Cody.
